Where does it say Burco was demined? It says the internal conflicts made humanitarian demining difficult and no new programs were initiated.:childplease:

Still trying to blame Siad Bare?:mjlol::pachah1: Siad Bare didn't have much interest in Burco. We both know who destroyed it whether it is with mines or bazooka.

"Landmines were used extensively in this civil war. While the two sides have now reconciled, the landmines they planted during this period are making life very difficult in Burao and the surrounding region"

Why I'm blaming him is because the overwhelming land mines in Somaliland were laid by the SNA. "Between 1988 and 1991, the Somali National Movement (SNM) attacked the northern towns of Hargeisa and Burao and the surrounding countryside--which are part of Somaliland. UNDP estimates that between 400,000 and 800,000 mines were used in this period.(825)"

Well mines were used in the Burco civil war heavily as well. So you can't blame him alone. Otherwise that would be trying to alter history for a agenda.

No matter how much you argue it won't change the fact that Barre has the most blame. No one is disputing that people used landmines in the civil war but you can't compare it to the amount SNA laid in Somaliland.

In areas where civil war didn't break out like Oodweyne (settled by one community) I agree. However in the case of Burco if we are honest it is in large due to clan clashes. Majority of the buildings there were also destroyed after 1991 (long after Siad Bare was gone).

Now in your title it says Origin of large number of minefields in Somaliland explained.

Now according to this map are the large number of minefields in Burco or elsewhere since you're only mentioning that place? If they're elsewhere which it clearly is then why are you trying to make it look bigger than it was?

Cause the mining due to clan clashes wasn't in Burco only (although the majority). It happened in Berbera and Hargeisa in lesser degrees.

I was referring to your title where it says Somaliland.

Burco mines were a large number so the title is appropriate. Most mine victims in the late 90s were from Burco.

"Most of the victims in Berbera were from the heavily-minded city of Burao":francis:

It also says "Between June and December 1998, there were seventy landmine accidents involving forty fatalities in the Togdheer region". The SNA mined Burco and its surroundings so it makes sense why there accidents in Burco and in Togdheer region where the most affected were the nomads.

The SNA mined Burco in the 80s not 90s. All the large new mines from early 90s to mid/late 90s were from the inter clan clashes.

And how did you determine which one was new? Are you trying to say the SNA planted mines disappeared in the 90s?:gucciwhat:

I am saying the large effect of mining in Burco became apparent in the civil war 1994-1997 & after it , not before. It can't be coincidence.

Aside from the book that's being quoted repeating many times that the SNA planted vast majority of the mines. Our friend wants us to beleive a civil war in SL caused the planting of large amounts of land mines, logic asks, if the rest of the country descended into a way more extreme civil war, then why does the landmine map show almost all landmines are in Somaliland, more specifically Isaaq regions:icon lol:

Where else descended to a worse civil war? aside from Sanaag region but that was different tactic. Mines were not really used since militias were always on the move unlike Burco.
