Ophir is a port or region mentioned in the Bible, famous for its wealth. King Solomon received a shipment from Ophir every three years (1 Kings 10:22) which consisted of gold, silver, sandalwood, pearls, ivory, and apes.
The Books of Kings and Chronicles tell of a joint expedition to Ophir by King Solomon and the Tyrian king Hiram I from Ezion-Geber, a port on the Red Sea, that brought back large amounts of gold, precious stones and of a later failed expedition by king Jehoshaphat of Judah.
The famous 'gold of Ophir' is referenced in several other books of the Hebrew Bible.[c]
The New Testament apocrypha book Cave of Treasures contains a passage: "And the children of Ophir, that is, Send, appointed to be their king Lophoron, who built Ophir with stones of gold; now, all the stones that are in Ophir are of gold."[4]
Could Ophir be Opone, Somalia?
Opone had a legendary status as a extraordinary city of which great civilizations traded with. Namely, from Phoenicia, Egypt, Greece, Persia, Yemen, Nabataea, Azania, the Roman Empire India, and elsewhere,[8]
It was also around because it’s a city in the Land of Punt that was known by the ancient Egyptians during the Old, Middle, and New Kingdom.[3][4][5]
King Solomon had a connection with Ancient Eritrea/Ethiopia & Yemen in ancient times (though whether it’s just a fable is highly debatable). And Ethiopians and Eritreans claim to be his descendants. So it wouldn’t be a surprise that he had deeper connections to the region. Specifically, Somalia or otherwise known during Ancient times; Land of Punt and Macrobia (By the Mycenaean Greeks).
