An act of theater. Trump’s big mouth had boxed him into a corner. Iran wouldn’t play his game. So he had to bomb Iran to save face. He bombed two empty facilities that had been previously struck by Israel. And he bounced six bombs off an indestructible facility (Firdos), claiming destruction despite the opposite being the case. That’s it. A “contained” strike. A nothing burger. And this is the man whose supporters call the greatest leader in the world. He’s a national disgrace.

As anticipated, Israel continues to pursue escalation, driven by a strategic imperative to neutralize Iran before the narrowing window of opportunity closes. It all reflects a broader geopolitical realignment, as the United States recalibrates its foreign policy focus towards East Asia for the foreseeable future. Remarkably, despite persistent efforts spanning four decades, Israel has been unable to cause regime change in Iran—an outcome that underscores the resilience and cohesion of a meritocratic regime rooted in Islamic theocracy. Comparable dynamics may well unfold in Afghanistan, where similar structural and political factors are at play.
