Omar Fateh situation

I’m a big supporter of Somalis creating their own separate online ecosystem with homegrown alternatives and gradually blocking off mainstream social media platforms back home.

It wouldn’t even be that difficult to do , we just need to build our own spaces for education, entertainment, and communication. That will solve it.

As for why so many Somalis follow elections so closely, I think it comes down to the fact that we’re a transnational community , what happens in one place resonates everywhere
I definitely agree we need a seperate media ecosystem for the people back home. I think we can at least start with the next president having tiktok censor some of the wild shit on soamli tiktok.

But I was thinking more about how the somali public forum which was done through poetry before the 20th century never went away and instead evolved into radio and then tv/YouTube to now social media.

its darood vs Hawiye,.

Hawiye are salty because last year a council race was held and the darood didn't vote for a hawiye man

Also dahir alasow from tik tok made it a qabil hawiye vs darood -dahir claim habar gidir but he is a wecel abgaal

its messy

The Hawiye took the Jewish mayor who is running against Omar Fateh a warsangeli- to a habar gidir restaurant and he was fed Cambuulo and saliid mac saaro

Jacob went to the hospital emergency vomiting and diarrhea

The darood made a press conference saying if Jacob died from food poisoning he Somalis would have been blamed NOT hawiye!

He had a good run; it's a shame to see Somalis letting their petty issues come in the way of having a Somali mayor of a capital city of a US state. Nonetheless, he's still young and has a chance to refine his skills and campaigning strategy in the future. The ending margin this time wasn't too far, around 8k votes in totality. Let this be a major lesson for Somalis, our internal divisions and cawaan qabil loyalty has made us miss out on having a Somali mayor for a major US city :bell:.
