Oman is rejecting the UAE dominance in Yemen

To keep your balance, you must keep moving.
The Emirati foray into Yemen through the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and capture of the Socotra island, that was done as a direct challenge to the Saudi-supported Hadi government, has clearly upset Oman. It cancelled multi-billion contracts with the UAE firms and entered into direct negotiations with Turkey about setting up the Turkish military bases in Oman.

The UAE could have brushed Oman off if not for the Omani Musandam Governorate sitting on the tip of the Strait of Hormuz which the Omanis can give to Turks for their military base. It is the most strategically important place on the Arab side of the Gulf.

The reaction of the UAE was super swift:

1. The Emiratis shut down their Yemeni STC project and handed over everything to the Hadi government, including the Socotra island. That is after the UAE has spent huge amounts of money on creating and financing the STC.

2. Instead the UAE wants to use Egypt in Yemen to alley Omani concerns. Hence the Egyptian military base talks in Somaliland were started.

The Emiratis rather prefer to play safe than have Oman as its adversary and Turkey controlling the Strait of Hormuz.
