I think it applies on every society, in the west, oriental, african, etc. You just need to get along with them, and ignore the wrong ideas they advice you.

This is true wallahi... We are backward due to this culture of listening to elders for advice..these elders will give advice on to realise a rapist and no body would even question their logic or reasoning out of respect because they are "wise" elders
But shouldn't we say something when they are clearly wrong and handing out bad advices like free candy
