Oil in Somalia

With oil prices set to hit $100 a barrel, I suspect there will be more companies interested in exploring in Somalia. PL has an advantage of being relative safe for onshore oil exploration compared to the south. I’m not sure what efforts have been made since AfricaOil company, but there should be a government agency dedicated to mineral and resource extraction in PL.

Deni should forget the zoo politics in Somalia, and focus on Puntland.

The green energy movement and oil divestment movements is causing the surge in oil prices, with low supply and high demand after COVID.

Somalia doesn't have any oil worth much, if we did we wouldn't be in this mess, the greedy Western nation's would have built a weak funtioning government and exploited our minerals just like Other countries in Africa, we have agricultural land that can grow best bananas and can fish(Not anymore, thanks to Farmaajo for selling us to China) but that is about it, we are just resourceless African nation that happens to be located near Baba Mandib.

I may be wrong but it's highly unlikely

Yeah agriculture is the new wave. I got a 100 acre farm outside jowhar I want to invest in. Inshallah Somalia gets its shit together so we can export the goods to more countries and expand our market. Taking it abroad brings more 💰 than selling it domestically

No point in taking out that oil, best to explore other paths to generate income for the fragile nation. One poster mentioned agriculture which is severely lacking in Somalia.

I always said that Oil is the Past and Uranium is the Future, so Alhamdulilah Galmudug has abundant of Uranium (800,000 ton) to sustain its Future into prosperity.

The main uranium deposits are in Galmudug FMS in central Somalia. Somalia has an estimated 810,200 tonnes of uranium reserves, with 7,600 tonnes of it potentially commercially recoverable IUREP, 1983, IX.3; NEA and IAEA, 2018)

The Gal-Mudug Regions of Central Somalia is endowed with another mineral deposit, uranium deposits. Following numerous mineral explorations, the area between between Dhusa-mareeb, El-bur, Wasil and Galkayo was found to contain extensive deposits of Uranium in the Taleh Formation that covers Galgaduud and South Mudug Regions. In the Miocene and the Pliocene (the Tertiary), the Taleh Formation had undergone extensive weathering in which secondary mineralization occurred. In this way Uranium minerals were formed in shallow deposits of calcretes and silcrete.

Whilst there is oil in somalia there isn't any infrastructure to extract it.
I did chemical engineering for a year (changed courses now) cos I wanted to become a petroleum engineer so I know a little about this.
There are generally a few stages of oil exploration:
1.Goverment passes laws (if puntland starts it would be here)
2. Seismic surveys are done to check if there is potential oil
3.companies bid on who get to extract oil (somalia is here)
4.tester drills are made to check if the potential oil is really oil (somaliland is here)
5.They check if the oil is commerical viable
6.They build actual oil rigs
7.They build roads, ports and train somali workers
8.oil is extracted and sold but company get profit for first year.

Minimum 8 years before somalia makes any money from oil.But the potential is huge somalia could be Kenya tier by 2035.

nothing in hiraan?
My dad owns 2 houses in beledweyne. Although most of his land and houses are in xamar. Growing up, I was much closer to my Mothers family. My mum and reer abti are warsangeli harti abgaal and it is my uncle himself who told me to invest in this particular farm near near jowhar.

Also everyone knows shabelle dhexe specifically the surrounding jowhar area is waay better when it comes to agriculture compared to hiiraan. It’s closer to xamar as well to sell whatever you grow. So when dams in the river and also xamar- jowhar road is built, exporting bananas, sesame and dried lemons will skyrocket amongst other crops

Can you expand more on the fish comment, can Somalia seriously not capitalize on its coastline anymore just for measly 1 million???

Recent seismic survey shows good oil find in Galmudug offshore. Bairiire also pointed out that Galmudug has abundance of Uranium.
