Nutrition and brain development in early life (Very relevant to Somalia)

Summary: Nutritional intake in early life has a direct effect on brain development and determines intellectual capacity in later life. Basically a starved/malnourished child's brain wont develop properly. The difference can be as large as a 20% reduction in IQ for people who were malnourished during early development.

This data explains so much and explains why Somalia has it's issues compared to it's better fed neighbours. It also explains the abundance of psychiatric issues within our community.

I advise all of you to ensure your tuulo prioritieses feeding your children and newborns a nutritious and well balanced diet to avoid producing brain damaged adults.:dabcasar:

I actually disagree. The Arabs who lived during Prophet muhammah pbuh were the most intelligent arabs living in the desert just like most Somalis. They lived on diet of dates, meat hunted, camel and goat. In fact, starvation can trigger the brain to think clearly and not clog it. That is why in todays youth- they are fat with lots of medical issues.

Some parts and populations within the country suffer from worse levels of malnutrition than ancient Arabia, a plentiful diet of dates, hunted meat, Camel, dates, fish etc is a much better diet than what a lot of Somalis currently live on.

Due to the difference in diet quality and wealth, South Koreans are much taller than their North Korean neighbours even though they have the same genetics. Is it hard to believe that a bad diet may hinder brain growth/development just like it does in bones?
