1) Somalis.

2) In technical language, refugees and asylum are by definition foreign born, the technical term for refugees from another part of the country is internally displaced person (IDP).

1) From Somalia, peak migration happened in the 1990s and 2000s. Remember that Ethiopia is very stingy with it's citizenship. A small amount is from Djibouti, where peak migration happened during the 1990s (most of them returned after the violence there ended though- at least the Somalis. Afar refugees who went to the Afar region still have not returned and probably won't).

2) No, that is how the UN always records things. Of course in common language, IDP's and refugees are both just called refugees.

The Somali “refugee” are refugee in name at this point, most have shops, business, work and have married with the local Somalis in the Galbeed. Ethiopia will never give them citizenship as the end goal is to import millions of Oromos and that subsection of Somalis are extra vulnerable to expropriation by these oromo thugs.

Yeah I do know this, just wanted to present some statistics. Also I wonder if the same is true for Afar refugees that moved from Djibouti to the Afar Region.

I am quite disappointed nobody gaf about the amount of South Sudanese individuals in Ethiopia, I guess I shall make a Somali IDP post to satisfy the masses... maybe a post on immigration (posts abt migration to Somalia always do numbers)

Also Ethiopian data based on total number of refugees from Somalia indicates that around 107,000 individuals came from 2023 to 2024, this means that the drought and anti-AS offensive caused a second wave of Somalia to Galbeed migration.
