Nobody should identify as “black”

Wtf does “black” even mean? because the origin of the term was supposed to refer to American slave descendants but now it’s just applied to every dark skinned person in Africa, it’s basically just a western caste designation atp (so is ‘white’).

I also don’t even think “African Americans” should be called “black” they should have their own ethnic word OR just straight up be called Americans

Like notice how nobody questions how much Caribbeans belong in the Caribbean/their ‘roots’? Nobody EVER tells Jamaicans or Dominicans that they “lost” their culture because they are just assumed to belong in the culture/region they currently have/live in.

African Americans are the only ppl that are denied this privilege of having “roots” in where their heritage lies, and I honestly think a lot of this is because “African Americans” have been denied a concrete identity that is distinct from other “black” groups.
Every word used to identify American descendants of slaves is very vague and includes all groups of Africans so bc of this they are told they don’t have “roots” yall gotta remember the significance of language in how we conceptualize groups of people

If y’all don’t get what I mean look at this video of these ‘British’ Caribbean girls… like who’s gonna tell them that according to their logic they also don’t know their “roots”?!?!? you literally are also a descendant of slaves just a different boat stop what the hell???

My point is basically

the word lost it’s meaning

It was supposed to refer to Americans who are descendants of slaves but now it’s just a vague word that uses to refer to any dark skinned people from Africa, it should fall out of use just like “yellow” for East Asians (most people understand yellow to refer to East Asians true but this is not the general word used to refer to them anymore let’s be fr)

It’s bad for everyone bc atp the vagueness of the word denies ‘african Americans’ of their identity it also erases the diversity in Africa don’t yall think it’s annoying that all Africans are lumped up under the same word when it’s the most genetically diverse continent

it makes no sense Arabs and Europeans are considered different races (just bc of religion lets be fr) when a lot of the time they are indistinguishable and yet ‘black’ Africans with very distinct differences are lumped up as the same...

Politically it’s a very vague word. It did at some point used to refer to only Africans Americans specifically ADOS (African descendent of slave) or FBA (Foundational black Africans). But because of migration everyone thats comes to the anglophone countries or western countries e.g (America, Canada, UK, New Zealand and Australia) that are from Africa (sub-Saharan) they’re considered black.
Regardless of their descendent.
Similar situation in the 1800s when Italians were considered non white because of the Anglo groups were the only dominant groups at the time. Whites were mostly referred to people that are mostly of Anglo Christian decent or Wasp (white Anglo Saxon Protestant). And Italians were mostly Catholic. Now it fully changed to something completely vague. Now everyone who are from Europe descent are white. (Even Arabs are included). They’re called white but it’s mostly the Christian ones.

Lastly not to be rude to these girls but they need to educate themselves on the reason why they’re don’t know their origin. It’s not because of ignorance or lack of education but it’s because they were robbed and bastardised by a particular group. They were sold and betrayed.

Yes I do. Only when using the census. People already know I’m Somali without me saying where I’m from. I’m too recognisable.
