But here’s the thing. In the near future we want a country that resembles a democratic rules based system. Very few people will accept publicly executing people for non-violent acts. We’ll have to have open courts and impose significant penalties.
We can also do reer magal death penalty: police identify the shabab members, surround them and then just shoot them up without a chance of surrender. Then they’ll document this as a police-involved incident that’s under investigation forever. I’m personally against this because it can get out of hand.
The democratic, open courts approach is frustrating but also will work in the long term. We don’t want terrorists and we don’t want unaccountable government.
