A former staffer at the ministry of interior in Somaliland has been arrested for espionage charges. Mr. Yasir Suleiman who used to link the ministry of interior with international agencies working in security was arrested for spying. The former interior ministry employee appeared before the court on several occasions. He faces the allegations of committing a national treason and that he leaked classified documents to Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security agencies (NISA).

According to reliable sources confirm that he was working with international espionage agencies undercover. Mr. Yasin is reported to have close nexus with the current Turkish consulate office in Hargeisa, Somaliland.

The Somaliland government has not so far provided information regarding the accusations leveled against Yasir, how he was working with Somalia’s intelligence and security agencies and the sort of classified information that he shared with Somalia authority.

Mr. Yasir started to work for the interior ministry during Silanyo’s administration and was sent to jail after he was accused of forging the former interior minister, Mr. Waran Adde’s signature. He was released by Silanyo’s administration as he was his next of kin.
