Unfortunately, the oil agreement that was signed goes against that law. It ignores key safeguards and even includes a clause saying that if it conflicts with Somali law, the agreement will override our own legislation. That completely defeats the purpose of having the law in the first place.

Yeah this is the part I was referring to. I know the petroleum law is solid but if we're getting screwed in the agreement process with partners, then what's the point as you've also mentioned.

Wallahi, it’s unfortunate. I’m a pragmatic person, and I take into account the reality on the ground. Taking into account our insecurity and lack of stability, the terms we agreed to are just incredibly horrible. There is simply no reason to concede that much and, in the process, also lose most leverage. I really hope that something will be done about this sooner rather than later.
