They are going to update it soon apparently:

 They listed Copts and Egyptians with Arabs. This is going to trigger Afrocentrists.

Meanwhile they recognized that Maghrebis are more unique and deserving of their own category over Egyptians.

Assyrians were put with Armenians/Iranians rather than with Levantines. Also interesting.

They should redo this with Assyrian and Mesopotamian next to Arabs. Egyptians with Arabs is good. They have more in common with each other than other North Africans.

Aren't Cypriots pretty much Hellenized/Turkified Levantines? @Apollo

I think they are more connected to ancient Anatolians perhaps explaining why they were placed with (North) West Asians. Greeks from Europe are mixed with Slavs and are a bit different from Cypriots explaining why Greeks are in the Europe category and Cypriots in the West Asian one. :hmm:

Mainland Greeks are Hellenized Albanians (Arvanites), Anatolians, Slavs and Romanians (Vlachs).

Interesting categorisation.

Is there any particular reason(s) why Egyptians(Copts) are sharing a category with Levantines & Arabs rather than with other North Africans/Berbers?

Probably they consider them too similar. Both being high in Natufian-like origins while Maghrebis have higher Taforalt-like origins plus rare Iberian Neolithic stuff making them more unique.

PS. This is their upcoming South Asia categorization, perhaps also of interest:

Surprised that Pakistani Pashtun are in the Central Asian category especially since they assimilated many Muslim Indians and have heavily intermarried with them. Pakistani Pashtun look much different than the Iranic Pashtun from Afghanistan.

They're on to something.

Probably explains the very distinct look/phenotype Amazighs have when compared to Egyptians that tend to be swarthy.

@Apollo I think they need to break down the Central Asian category with:

Iranic and Iranized Turks:

Tajik, Afghan Pashtun, Turkmen, Uzbek, Burusho, Baloch.

Mongoloid :

Kyrgyz, Kazakh, Hazara

@kobe

 I noticed it too and found it a bit weird (Pathans in CA). But apparently they are too different from other Pakistanis who are more like North Indians. They had to put them somewhere and Pathans are too Asiatic to be grouped with Iranians.

Most of the UK Pakis are Pathan/Pashtun. They look different to other Pakis/Indians.

Interesting that Egyptians are grouped with Levantines. In my experience, Egyptians look very phenotypically sub-saharan, compared to North Africans/Maghrebis.
