Gamers, the ones who sat home playing all day, had a stigma. People did not really respect them, me neither. It was only during the League of Legends times that being a gamer got more value since the more time you spent on the game, the better you were, the better you were you could carry the team and get regard in that sense.

Playing games and being a gamer were two things. Every boy had a console, but not many were gamers. To be honest, we did not call a person a gamer unless they played on expensive PCs and they really were sweating WoW or CS, lol. And that was associated with being inside all day, wasting your social life, which was uncool. There was nothing wrong with playing San Andreas with the homies, but to rather sit home when peeps came to your house requesting you come outside was a negative thing.

Before the social media era we're in now, sitting on platforms all day was weird unless you did it for a purpose. I remember when Facebook started to pop around '08. As I entered middle school, the social dynamics changed, so I created a profile on Facebook to link up with the friends I had, or in case I created new ones I just met at a party or somewhere random. I was only on YouTube to listen to music for the most times too, until Spotify came and around that time, the golden age of YouTube videos on all kinds of shit like conspiracy theories and whatnot popped up. Before Facebook, we had messaging systems like MSN and later used Skype (the latter we used contemporaneously). Social media was really used to be social, used to maintain our in real life, life. Never was it a substitute.

It was the place dudes lowkey went and slid women in private chat to exchange some words, but this was almost exclusively from real-life encounters. Your Facebook was directly tied to you. Like my face and my friends were on my profile so doing weird shit was not on the program unless you'd like to be judged. People did not troll like that. If a guy started harassing people online, you best believe it would be known in school the day after. There were no two-faced stuff. Like if you were the cool guy, you had to be the same guy online. The internet had its functions back then, too. Now, it is better because information, business opportunities, and networks are accessible. One can easily use the internet as the right form of extension, not blur the lines.

Forums are post-aggregate, as in, whoever goes to a forum, fits a select form of profile, so you get the echo-chamber effect. It's not a coincidence we have a high number of nutjobs here.

yeah but more often than not the people on these sites are either people who actually are within that specific niche who found it cus hey its a website full of people like me e.g. Somalis or if u had a certain type of item/thing , interest or hobby you would go on that forum to find out more about it but things like reddit and amino*back then* kind of taken over a lot of that or the other type of people on these forums are impostors or are just lurking which pretty much will 100% happen as almost everyone does that on internet forums whether u are looking at peoples either tragic stories or big flexes there you really don't know what u find but the good part of it is it is a breath of fresh air from big apps with massive algorithms.
