From a biblical standpoint the curse was purportedly placed on Canaan by his pious and religious grandfather who was enraged by his father's sin. Which if I'm to believe in this claim is rather contradictory phenomenon as the prophets know that Allah does not burden the future generations for their forefather's mistakes.
Which is not to say that he did not warn us that he would not change the condition of a people until they seek such a change themselves, which is the true curse of Africa and many other parts of the world that are plagued by poverty.
The biblical curse of Ham never truly made sense from a biblical viewpoint, as the most cursed people would have been the Edomites who were cursed in Obadiah, and the Hebrews themselves who were cursed multiple times by The lord himself in both Deuteronomy and various other chapters. Yet the Europeans and Jews today are the most prosperous of all nations despite these biblical curses being directed at them by the lord of the worlds and prophets. Unless we want to claim that African tribes were indeed these ancient peoples and created their civilisations many centuries ago.

Kenyan Somalis are successful, can't compare them to US Somalis, and a lot of Somalis are native to Kenya.
