NATIONAL SHAME: “is this city (Dire Dawa) part of the Somali region” says Cadaan YT traveler, his Ethiopian guide “this is Oromia region”

Are gurgure closer to Cise or Samaroon?

They are a seperate branch of Dir. Gurgura are a subclan of the Madaxweeyne Dir.

Politically and geographically, they are closer to Ciise. But relations soured when there was clan conflict between Ciise and Gurgura in Erer, Sitti.

A few Gurgura still live in Sanaag amongst the Isaaq. And the grave of the Gurgura ancestor is still present in Sanaag.

Also amhara candidates are allowed to register in Jigjiga while the ONLF is blocked to register candidates in harar and Dir dhabe. @xabashi if PP was tolerant of all ethnicities why are they blocking somalis from their Democratic rights.

ONLF is not even a regional party but is registered as national party i.e. it can fill its candidates anywhere it likes in Ethiopia. Only parties that are registered as local parties like Baldaras are not allowed to fill candidates elsewhere but the likes of ONLF are registered as national parties and can fill candidates in Amhara, Oromia, Addis Ababa etc. if they have the budget and organizational strength to do so.

Ethnicity is not a requirement to run anywhere in Ethiopia. The requirements are knowledge of the local language and being resident in the locality for at least 2 years. That is it.

Show me any Somali that is prohibited to live in any Amhara city. Show me one! I just don't know where you guys get some of the "information".

I know this news and there is credible information that the local Somali government is becoming nervous about the coming election and the opposition have complained to the Election board. This is true and the regional government must cooperate and do its job. Having said that, I have not heard serious allegations from other regions like the South, Amhara, Afar etc. The oppositions there are not complaining at least not at the level we are hearing in Somali region. It looks to me that the regional government doesn't seem confident to win.

This is reality and must be corrected but this by no means dismisses the fact that anyone with any ethnicity can and is running for office in different states. Thousands of candidates from 46 parties have already registered in many States without them being asked for their ethnic background. This is simply a fact! So if ONLF have the money and the organizational strength it should fill candidates in Addis (many Somalis live in Addis), Oromia, Amhara and elsewhere and test the system. Let's see if one of the candidates is rejected because he is Somali.

Mustafe Cajar is worried he won't win the next election.

The demography of a city changes everywhere in the world. The idea of a "pure" ethnic city is delusional in my view. The demographics of Washington DC, Minneapolis etc. have changed. People are not static like plants :ftw9nwa: they move, work, intermarry, change residences etc. It is more wise to have a system in place that can accommodate demographic changes and provide a fair public service to all than to live in delusion of a "pure" ethnic city which will only lead to unnecessary conflicts. Let people move and live wherever they want.
Dameer kaan bal fiiriya. Demographic changes in Ethiopia is just a product of your bi-annual genocides.

Why are Amharas forcing their language onto the entirety of Ethiopia?
So they can do better business between the inhabitants of the same country, imagine that each one speaks their own language, everything would be hindered and the country could not get ahead. Language can play an important role in lifting many people out of poverty

No it gives amhara the competitive advantage to be offered jobs across the country and thus make amhara better off economically.

I prefer the Ethiopian national language to be English so everyone is equal.

What has demography of a city like Dire Dawa and genocide to do? Don't use such words like genocide when cities everywhere in the world change their demographics unless you have a proven evidence to back up your claim. In Addis Ababa for example ethnic groups from southern state will soon become majority beating Amhara ethic group. So what? That is how live was always. People move in cities and change demographics. Today it is Oromo, tomorrow it is Amhara or Somali or whatever. Nothing is static. If you want to change the demography of a city then go and live there and tell all your families and ethnic groups to move there and live. Whining and crying don't cut it.

A few times I agree with Mr. Amaharaphobic  We should work to change the national language to English. Equality is a must for any country and we all need to work to make a state serve its citizens equally in every sector. The first step should be to make English the national language along with Amharic to have a transitional period. I know it is very hard to replace Amharic especially in cities. Even in cities where Amharic is not the official language like the cities in Oromia etc. Amharic is still the de facto working language of many cities but we have to do everything to achieve equality.

We have to also do something against the huge domination of Amharic language in the private media. In my last visit to Ethiopia I was shocked to see so many private TV/Radio channels but almost all only serving in Amharic except very few. This is unacceptable and we have to help and support private medias to use other languages also. For financial reason private medias don't like other languages. They all want to do their ads and shows and news in Amharic only. This must be changed! No peace without equality and justice!

I'm not sure though any government can be successful in replacing Amharic with any language. The influence is very deep and I'm not even sure if majority of Ethiopians will accept replacing Amharic with something else. But we have to at least make English the national language along side with Amharic so that no Ethiopian citizen "is forced" to learn Amharic if he/she doesn't want it. This is the minimum we should aspire to achieve.

Having your own alphabet y/o language is highly respectable, I would not change it. English as a second language might be fine

AMHARIC IS NOT MY LANGUAGE AND IT DOESNT GIVE ME ANY RESPECT.
WHAT RESPECT HAS IT GIVEN AMHARA PEASANTS THEY ARE STILL IN ABJECT POVERTY.
DO YOU THINK THE GEEZ ALPHABET IS FOOD THAT CAN BE SWALLOWED OR CURRENCY THAT CAN PAY BILLS?
IS GEZZ USED IN SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH.
MY LANGUAGE IS SOMALI AND ETHIOPIA HAS MORE THAN 100 NATIVE LANGUAGES WHICH NEED TO BE RESPECTED AS PART OF DIVERSITY.
