National IDs in Somali Region

Another move by PP to cripple Somalis in SR

Does this mean tightened borders for non-DDS Somalis?
Probably. The national ID has begun to supposedly keep track of revenue collection but it could also be weaponised due to the recent developments. They wouldn't want movements of unidentifiable Somalis.

I have a few relatives regularly taking their camels to Wardheer i hope they aren't affected

I don't think they will be yet. The main regions they will be rolling out the IDs to monitor will be Faafan and possibly Sitti and Jarar.

What do you think? @GaradShabeel

Replacing the current IDs with a sole national ID was one of Abiy/PP promises. Which comes as no surprise. Their justification was to move on from having ethnicity label, which is bs considering the only reference being the regional state of your residence.

In any case, this change is meant to centralize more powers from the states gradually which is very evident by now. But with the announcement of the e-ID and completely having oversight of residents with taxes, payment/bank transactions, all types of licenses etc tied to the e-ID, this will lead to more control of the public. We'll have to deal with federal authorities more often often now through their local offices in the various states, indirectly bypassing involvement of reg'l authorities. In DDS, I think this may affect Somalis living in the border areas of Oromia/Afar who may get 'denied' service or re-directed if they don't pay taxes to the DDS.

As far as the borders, there're already federal customs/migration officers present at border crossings, but for the most part they've been unregulated with 'open door' to other Somalis. Given the recent developments, they may soon treat Somalia and SL differently and possibly have different visa policies to benefit the latter along with co-operations in more fields.

Nevertheless, most Somalis along the border will soon be affected/restricted. @Tropical Breeze Currently, only the borders from Sitti/Djibouti all the way until Doolo/Sool is clearly demarcated. The implementations will start off in urban/main populated areas, with Faafan in DDS. I don't think it will reach Doolo now. But eventually, everyone would need some type of documentation to enter/be present in the country. They've already requested citizens to upgrade to the new IDs. And foreigners to renew their documentations so they're complied with the new standards. Non-citizens without papers will be the most affected, especially border crossings of non-DDS Somalis.

Isolate and divide DDS from Somalia , not even the Xabashis attempted this

I know I could always rely on you for information on DDS

Part of it is their ambition is for Addis to control all of its border and wanting DDS Somalis to adopt an Ethiopian-Somali identity along with being more loyal to the Ethiopian state.

But Somalia needs to make sure that Ethiopia at least agree to issue documentations without any ifs or but to Somalis who regularly cross borders. Otherwise, it will mainly affect xoolo dhaqato in the short run. But the long term plan is to slowly lessen ties with Somalia (of our people) and cement a permanent end of 'Somaliweyn'.

I doubt Xamar would do something about this, they don't care about xoolo dhaqata like that.

Thanks sxb. Even tough I follow the politics of Somalis, it's pale compared to how I keep up with the affairs of DDS and Ethiopia. Got to keep up with developments that affects me first hand :wow:
Will this bypass somali dhaqan of odays vouching to get their kin papers? There's no way PP can stop that.

What development Ugaas?
forgive me I don’t wanna call aluminum rooftops that foolxumo ufo looking parliament house and alibaba failed prototype 5g network a development.
Aabo tells me how Iley used to spit in their sinfulness faces and refuse everytime s wanted to purposefully slow down development in the region. If Iley was still in power today we would seeing real development and well fed/armed army not these pkm mounted land cruiser tecknikos and malnourished miskeens called liyuu police-siil

Let’s be honest Somalia is too big for border control. People will still cross border wit or without id
That's something that can be said for nations. However the id system should be implemented as method of documenting citizens and perhaps in the future voting.

With recent recent development, I meant as in political development of Ethiopia and the relations between the federal government with regards to DDS and the recent agreement with SL. And not actual development of the region.

First I took mustabqo from gaashamo Then the passports from Awbare
They just ask you where you were born and your tribe, and they start asking you about your region. If you are actually from the region, you will know the answer
Didn't you see all these Somalis in Russia and Belarus? They all traveled with the Ethiopian passport. The last of them is my cousin. He entered Finland with the bicycle 😂
