Yes, the idea of the white race changed alot. At first it was just those in Britain and France, then to all northern Europeans incl. Germans. And finally to southern Europeans and Eastern Europeand.
It was thought that Southern Europeans were more barbarian than northerners because they carry some north african (considered ni**er blood back then) ancestry which is why southern italians especially were treated like shit so much they mass migrated to the US
