as for Syria, several rebel groups were being backed without any sort of understanding who the hell these people are, many of whom, are no different than the terrorists that the US claims to be against, and ISIS itself sprouted due to US meddling in the region, many of them were previous government officials notably from Iraq that the US should have taken care of after their invasion, and the group grew due to resentment of occupation and exploitation, that came from the invasion as well as other ones in the middle east, and were easy targets for brainwashing
