My ancestry(suspicion)

Yes I’m majority Somali

Okay I’m suspicious about of my great grandfather. I don’t think he is fully Somali.
One day I asked my mom about her family tree and she told my about her parents but then when she got to her grandparents…this is when it became suspicious. She told me about her grandfather who came from rural Somalia but when she was describing him…he didn’t really sound Somali. He is lightskinned and I ask her how lightskin and she used one of our neighbours as example and says that he was that colour why he was working on the farm all day under the African sun. This dude also had hazel coloured eyes and this when I became even more suspicious. Look we Somalis do Carry genes that can make someone lightskinned although the majority is brownskinned. But coloured eyes aren’t indigenous to mainland Africa at all. So I started to investigate more and asked what his other features are like. His nose was tall and straight and his hair was wavy black. To make sure my suspicion was right I asked her if we had thin lips and yes this dude had very thin lips and my mom even said that he was, af Chariin(sorry if i spelled it wrong). My mother swears that he is fully Somali and says that it can’t be differently because there are no foreigners in ceelbur. She never told me where his father came from tho and I forgot to ask.

look from my father sides I already know that my great great grandmother was full massri. Since my father side where living in the city for centuries it’s not surprising.

but I thought that my mother side was 100% Somali.
look I know that I had been a little bit predejuiced against mixed mutts but if my suspicions are true I’m still 85% Somali.

Ceelbur is straight up South Sudanese complexion territory. Perhaps your grandfather was mixed with the coastal populations of cadcads and gibil cads.

Yes my mom told me my great grandmother who married the great grandfather I’m talking about was extremely dark like the south Sudanese and she was from ceelbur too. Maybe I have to ask my mom where his father was from to know more.

Maybe your mother’s grandfather—or one of his grandmothers—was not Somali, since it’s said that a person can inherit physical traits from their seventh ancestor. This is not unusual; most Somalis in the diaspora who married Arab or European women had children with such features. And if those children later returned to Somalia, married, and their descendants settled there, I believe one of their grandchildren would still carry those features.

As for your mother’s clan, here is a genealogical tree of Somali clans. If her clan traces back to one of the clans shown here, then she is Somali, and so was her grandfather.

Both my parents are Hawiye but different sub clans. I personally think he is just Somali and if he is mixed it’s probably with a person from a group that assimilated in our country cause my mom just says that his father is also from ceelbur.

Sorry, there was a typing mistake — I meant maybe your maternal grandfather's mother was not Somali, not your mother's grandfather.

As for the person being 100% Somali, that's not important. What matters is that he/she belongs to a Somali clan — that's what makes him/her Somali.
