Muslims halalising riba in the West?

Whenever some of my family members tell me about someone who bought a property and using them as an example of “success”, the first thing I would ask is if they used riba.

That word really seems to trigger them and they like to bring up sheikh reference as a way to justify it and defend them but it explicitly said it is a MAJOR sin worse than committing zina 36 times including with your mother and you’ve declared war with Allah. Exposing your sin in the open is also a major sin.

How do those people even sleep at night knowing they have to carry that for the rest of their lives?

I have to take out a student loan for university this year and because of riba im not even sure I want to go. Its been so normalised. It reminds me of a hadith where our prophet said riba will be so widespread it will spare no one

Not gonna lie western Muslims by default the dhaqan of the kuffar seeps into western Muslims more than one can think for obvious reasons .

Things like Muslims being tempted to taking interest shouldn’t be a surprise but highly doubt our Shiekh’s would try making it halal or even try supporting that practice .

My teacher was talking about if you end up taking a loan and you think you are gonna make a lot then pay off as much of the loan as fast as you can to avoid too much interest, but if you dont think you are gonna make as much then pay it slowly and wait for the loan to expire after the 30 years

I don’t like that subreddit but they’re correct. Somalis are the only people who fell for the no riba stuff that other muslims don’t care about. Arab & south asian sheikhs are telling somalis not to buy homes because of riba but turn a blind eye to their people doing the same thing. What is there to be proud about? Your peers and their families own their homes but you don’t? That’s shameful

There are ways around riba, at least here in America, without really sacrificing anything. For example, most Somalis who own homes here in Minnesota, including my family, attained homeownership through a halal mortgage company. How it works is they essentially purchase the house with you from the seller at market rate, making you co-owners of the property. You then pay them rent, which is equivalent to what they would have earned in interest through a traditional mortgage. The rest of your payment goes toward building equity.

Let’s say you want a brand-new car but lack the means to buy it in cash, or just don't want to tie up that kind of money in a depreciating asset. In America (and probably most Western countries), you can lease, which is basically long-term renting. During pre-pandemic days, when interest rates were low, you could also finance a car at 0% interest. I knew a lot of family members who got brand-new Toyotas this way, financing them over five years with no interest.

If you need money for a big electronics or appliance purchase, as long as your credit is decent, you can get 12 to 24 month no-interest financing with Apple or Best Buy (basically Walmart for electronics/appliances in the U.S.). For general purchases, you can apply for a credit card with a 12 to 24 month 0% APR introductory period, I've seen people use this for college tuition. As long as you pay your balance off within that time, you won’t be charged interest. **You're credit score should be at minimum 730+ to qualify for this, and you do have to be a reasonably disciplined person for this to work.**

Basically, what I'm getting at is, at least here in America, where the economy is so consumer-driven, there are easy workarounds for avoiding interest. As long as you're reasonably disciplined and pay off your balance within the introductory periods. So in the end there's really no excuse for dealing with interest as a Muslim. Unfortunately, most Muslim communities don't have much of a stigma around riba and use it nonchalantly as if it's not a major sin. By willingly engaging in it, you're essentially declaring war against Allah(SWT). Fortunately we Somalis are outliers in this regard Alhamdulilah.

The same ones who bring up Somali families paying 1-5% mortgage rates will pay 18% on their frivolous credit card spending and high interest rates on their car notes and student loans. I think its due to jealously that they cannot afford home ownership because why else would they bring up riba when they do it themselves when they could have worked the summer for pay off university tuition and or save up to buy a 10 year old Toyota? It's always the poor, materialistic, financially irresponsible Somalis who live in government housing (they steal from taxpayers) that bring up mortgages in envy. They don't care about interest except when it's a mortgage.

Staying in government housing often leads to more of their kids(especially sons) crashing out. Even if they don’t, it’s an uphill battle, especially if their kids still foolishly cling to that low iq poverty mindset.

If you're just saying "Somalis are idiots" with this then that's your opinion and I won't even argue with that, but if you're actually peddling that 68 IQ shit I must interject and stop you. That stat is fake. Richard Lynn made it up. Literally.

There was no actual sampling of Somalis in his book and datasets. He took results from some malnourished Ethiopian village and some IDP camp in Kenya that wasn't even Somali and just averaged out to assume for Somalis. He frequently did this and just completely made up country stats to support his racist views and he's been debunked and ostracized into infinity.

Frankly, you shouldn't even need me to say this for you to know it's bullshit. Sub 70 IQ is basically mental retardation, saaxiib. That person can barely function in society. Putting on clothes, simply passing school at a 6th grade level... all of it would be an ordeal. The countless Somalis who graduated college, finish highschool, own businesses, are in STEM fields, who can read and write and so on would be complete impossibilities. It is impossible for that many "population geniuses" to exist which is what you'd need for people capable of those things at a pop average of 68. You'd have to be 68 yourself to even believe this shit.

Somalis should really stop comparing themselves with other communities. Just because you see the Desi and Arab community indulging in blatant Riba doesn’t mean we have to follow suit and participate in haram. Riba at the end of the day is haram, you are right about the hypocrisy of the South Asians and Arabs who don’t hold their community accountable but come for us .
