MSB was the only one who looked like a leader

It leaves the doors open for a greater leader to emerge. I truly and sincerely believe that a world war or something of equal catastrophe such as a great depression, could kick start a revolution of change in Somalia. There is just a broken line of leadership in somalia? Who truly runs somalia? Amisom? America? Federal states? I welcome WW3. Its the only thing that might wake a. up.

AUN. He did a lot for my people.
The guy was a terrible leader who killed your tribesman. He can burn hell with you. I can assure you that man is not going to heaven sxb.
He killed many of my tribesmen as well, what is your point. If you can't seperate your emotions from facts then you're not cut out somali politics. Objectively, he was a great leader and its clear to see. AUN

I'm not surprised by ur views and ur emotional reaction to mine. If you haven't already, you should read a lot more about Somali history and maybe ur views will become more balanced.
I am interested. Whats your views on Siyad Barre? He might have been a good leader before the crisis started but I believe that some wrong actions that the government did under his leadership undid the good things that he achieved. I have always wondered whether he could have done better in preventing the civil war when the situation of the country got worse which I feel he had but didnt.

Siad Barre was a great leader, what he did for Somalia especially in the 70's will always be remembered.

Unfortunately, he fucked up way too many times and each mistake he made had immense repercussions.

Siad barre oppressed every single clan not named Mareexan at some point in time. This guys actions nearly allowed Ethiopians to take over my region yet I am able to still acknowledge what he has done for the country.

He wasn’t a great leader, he just kept things together by a very fragile string. He was desperate to keep power and by the time the accident happened in 1986 he knew time was running out.

There were no real institutions, everything was concentrated in the capital, he was being advised by a bunch of drunks and addicts, he was a saqajaan, and he really did not care he just destroyed anyone in his way.

At least there was pride in being Somali back then. He created a literacy campaign, Public Health, anti FGM, but his anti wadaad stance created a vacuum for them to come in and Somalia switch to Somalis being more into the deen to the point where you are looked at funny if you don’t wear a hijab back home.

Anyway he is long dead and everyone uses him as a scapegoat. At the end of the day, Mogadishu’s leadership is xasid. People are starving and dying while they wear suits and fill their bellies and to this day we don’t know what they’ve accomplished

He made critical mistakes, like killing those wadaads in 75, pissing off the USSR during the Ethiopian war when we had no other true allies to back us, killing many saraakiil in the army after they returned from the 77 war in order to eliminate any threats to his rule, not finding a way to bring the rebel groups to the table in the 80's and thus preventing civil war and the death of thousands of civilians. But still, none of these present day leaders are even half the man he was.

Despite all his flaws there's been no somali leader who has accomplished even half of the stuff he has. Anyways as my inabti @Gambar said he's long gone so you can't use him as an excuse for the state Somalia is in now

Tbh if you look at most African countries, they were all crap from 1960 to 1990. It was only after 1990 where they saw a lot of development. I think that if Siad Barre came in power in like the 80s until now, then it would have been far better.

That was a different era, the height of cold war turned out to be in Somalia's advantage. MSB had to pick a side between USA and USSR, a diplomatic stand off based on ideology. Farmaajo has to side with either Qatar and UAE. There will come a time when we will be discussing whether we should side with Sudan or South Sudan. :nahgirl:

100% true. It's because he was in it for the power, not for the money.
Everyone who followed him except for AY maybe were in it to get rich and loot the country.

Some people say Barre was a great leader, but I dont know any achievements of his regime?
That he could actually control the country, today the presidents have no control anywhere outside of the capital

Its just a bad idea to elect a flabby weak looking leader for an already tarnished nation. A leader should look like he can handle his own self. What does it say when your president had dissheveled clothing, dry ashy skin, greasy hair, protruding gut (but in a weak way not the "strong" fat) and looks over all like they don't know what they are doing
