Wanna hear people’s opinions/stories on this since I have offers in and out and I’m pretty torn.

If you moved out why did you and do you regret doing so

If you stayed home why didn’t you move out and do you regret staying

For context I’m from london and moving out would be to Bristol or Nottingham.

I'm from London as well, and moved out for uni because commuting would be near to impossible. My first choice and the uni I really wanted to go to wasn't in London so that was the only reason. Personally I do think the pros of not moving out outweigh the cons. Staying at home means you save A LOT of money.

But with that said, it has really taught me a lot so far. Makes you more independent defo. My mum basically did everything for me (very grateful of course, and I also did pull my weight). Had to do my laundry, (man are the launderatte machines at uni expensive). Cooking too, first few weeks I was putting huge effort but then got lazy and resorted to easy meals to make.

I was considering Notts as well actually, had it as my insurance. What course is it?

So my advice would be, stay at home if your firm or the one you really want to go to is in London. If in the midlands, like Bristol or Notts, then it is best for you to move out. Also, rent is cheaper in the midlands compared to London. And which one do you prefer out of Bristol and Notts, both are Russell groups so not much worry there.

I can decently pull my own weight in terms of self management so I should be good there.

I’m doing economics at notts and I have an offer with them it’s just the offer is pretty high (AAA). I prefer notts over Bristol definitely.

Also what uni did you end up going to?

If your self management is good enough, then you don't have much to worry about at all.
I see, nice course. What's the offer for Bristol? And you'll be sitting exams this year right? So you won't be as lucky as me last year were grades were just handed :D

I'm at Cambridge and study History & Politics.

The offer for Bristol is much better (ABB or BBB and A in EPQ) and it’s for economics and management, but I don’t really want to go to Bristol. It would be my third option after Nottingham and my firm would be LSE for management but they haven’t got back to me yet. If they reject me then I’ll either take a gap year or firm Nottingham.

Yeah we’re sitting exams this year lol. Inshallah It goes well but its looking bad.

Mashallah you got into Cambridge that’s amazing bro. Are you in Cambridge somsoc?

I see I see. Hmm, tbh Notts is better. I would defo do that, if you're set on Notts and you don't get the grades, then a gap year isn't half bad. LSE is also really good, hopefully you hear from them soon.

Best of luck, inshallah it goes how you want it to go.

Alhamdulillah yes, it was a dream come true. And yes, I'm apart of Somsoc

if you can have peaceful mind and quite place at your parent house, then stay, why ppl like to throw money idk

If you can stay home and work at the same time. Save up as much as possible!

At 18 moving out seemed better, but looking back now staying home would've saved me a of money and stress. Again this depends on the course and what the uni are offering. If it's a top uni or better offer move out.

Im on mobile, so if you are also on the phone you can delete your post first by clicking the three dots and one of the options is to delete your post.

Yeah I think that's only if your post is recent. Oh well, I'm not that interesting to warrant someone finding out who I am. Appreciate the concern though

London literally has the best unis outside oxbridge, so just put in the extra effort to get the required grades for those unis. LSE, KCL, UCL, SOAS, QMUL all do econ and are Russell group

Yh I applied to LSE and SOAS and I got into SOAS. KCL is a good uni but their economics course is new and not quantitative enough. I didn't apply to QMUL because I’m simply above doing so.

It is overrated, live with your parents and save money.
Anyone who doesn't have to pay rent or for utilities and food while having a job and parents who are happy with such an arrangement for the next few years before you get married should count their blessings. The sheer bank you can save up, saaxiib...

It’s not about living at home or not but about the university.

You must be mad if you choose Bristol over SOAS or KCL.

Do an economics degree at KCL and secure a masters at LSE or Oxbridge. Join your economics club and try get a leadership position.

Do all the case competitions and apply for all the top internships.

In the competitive field of finance/economics, uni magac is the first thing they look at. If you’re not from a certain place, you’re out.

Bristol ranks higher than both KCL and SOAS for economics lol but overall I don’t really wanna go there for a lot of reasons. SOAS gave me a pretty low offer and have sent me like 20 emails about why I should choose them they aren’t that good

Kcl economics degree is new and not quantitative enough especially for higher finance. LSE management is even more quantitative than KCL economics is.

Rn I’m considering a backup option for if I get rejected by LSE. If not then I’ll obviously stay and be going there. But if I do it’s either Nottingham or a gap year

I’ll be real with you, take KCL if you don’t get LSE.

It’s about the prestige of the university not the prestige of the course. You will be in London also.

Just make sure you supplement it with some case competitions, extracurriculars and even a short summer course or two to make up for the shortcomings.

Do all this, keep a decent grade and you’ll have your pick of employers.
