I think it’s because Syrians are mostly Muslim while Lebanon has a very large Christian population. Sharing the same religion as Europeans gives them a way to try and be closer to them
Yes, Syria was a dictatorial state, but it was not the fault of the people in the end. Rather, there was religious restrictions on the Sunnis there, including prayer, for example, because of their government.

Italic DNA is Roman DNA and whether they were a part of the Byzantine Empire or not, they have negligible European-related ancestry from that era. They aren’t leftovers from anything. Just a bunch of Middle Easterners that were ruled over by foreigners who later packed their bags and left when the next invaders took over.
