How many of those kids survive. There’s a high mortality rate.
It’s not a miracle. It’s aid and diaspora money keeping millions of them barely afloat.Somalis back home need to start cultivating our resources so we can provide for the surplus of children in the coming years. It’s a miracle how Somalis back home provide for such big families with so little.
You are always so cynical. I don't remember a single time you posted anything positive about SomaliaThe most famous trait that Africans are known for is that they are emotional, reject the truth, and have no sense of criticism.
I will not respond because you guys just maangaab nationalists
Because there is nothing positive. I see this with my own eyes every dayYou are always so cynical. I don't remember a single time you posted anything positive about Somalia
What do you mean? There has been plenty of positive news. You are expecting instant miracles since your expectations are too high.Because there is nothing positive. I see this with my own eyes every day
While Somalia U5 mortality in Kenya is somewhat lower than average (mostly due to HIV upcountry), it is ~50% higher than average in Ethiopia. This number needs to come down, but it is not slowing down Somali growth by all that much, our population is growing maybe 0.3% slower due to high infant mortality. How many of those kids survive. There’s a high mortality rate.
Somalia's under 5 mortality (includes infant mortality) lowers Somalia's crude birth rate by ~ 7%. The number of children who die is no where near enough to blunt Somalia's growth rate. 93% of children born in Somalia survive.
@bohom high fertility is our greatest defense against Ethiopia. The more Somalis there are the better off we will be in the long run. If Somalia cannot support us, we will move into Ethiopia and Kenya. They don't have nuclear weapons to stop us from doing so.
My eyes were really opened to how low fertility derails everything when I read up on parts of India and Myanmar. Places with a per capita income of like $1500 with a TFR of 1.2, despite being mostly rural and agrarian, absolutely fucked up.

For a country like Somalia, calling for lower fertility is a polite way of asking us to kill ourselves.
Unironically the best way to judge a country’s prospects is it's level of development relative to it's fertility, and if that is around the same level of historical patterns in East Asia and the West.
Turkey is not a failed state incapable of basic governanceGreece population in 1940: 7,344,860
Turkiye population in 1940: 17,820,950
Greece population in 2024: 10,341,277
Turkiye population in 2024: 85,816,199
Greece used to be a serious threat to Turkey for this reason for a short period of time (1900-1925) but they're no longer a threat. Demographics matter
I can't see Ethiopia breaking as long as Habesha still persist with this cope with trying to govern the whole thing, instead of taking their lands and bouncing. If Somalis want to be able to go toe-to-toe with Ethiopia in the future, the Somali population of Somalia+Somali Galbeed needs to be at least 1/3 the size of highland Ethiopia.
We will have to fight Ethiopia for Somali Galbeed in the future, I want us to be as large as possible when that time comes. Make the Ethiopians fear our numbers. I would encourage the FGS to recruit SNA directly from Somali Galbeed. Build a Somali ethnic army that (unlike the TDF) has access to international arms markets, ports, a staging ground, and religious fervor.
This is the great project that every Somali knows awaits us. We all know that Jigjiga, Godey and Jarati are ours as much as Beledweyne is ours. We turn away from this task because we lack confidence.
If we have to water federalism down to get this going, so be it.
We are nearing 30 million people in Somalia+Somali Galbeed.
It is shameful that Eritrea, with just 3 million people, is more powerful than we are.
I see the 13th-century mindset hasn't left Africans. Big population = big economy = African century. A continent full of poor, semi-illiterate children isn't the future.
When Somalis/Africans invest in basic education for the masses then this booming population will be good.
It's not good![]()
