Wild how this is a huge achievement. This should be basic human rights along with water, medical and education access for free. Tiny steps forward but a welcomed one.

It already had a drainage system, but that one was clearly overwhelmed by the floods. This is a deeper and much more comprehensive project, which should be replicated in every major city.

Previous system;

That is a Roman era channel drainage, a very rudimentary system unfit for purpose esp. for a city the size of Xamar.

Traditional sewer system:

Let us learn from modern engineering ingenuity elsewhere: building sponge cities to manage water, and make use of water, as and when needed. This has been tested and proved its effectiveness in many cities round the world.

Mooryan in 1991 dug up the sewage pipes and sold them for scrap metal.

To be fair most countries don’t have the last two either
We should aim for that. The citizens have been through a lot, they need basic services. Plus it'll foster trust between citizens and the government. I know it'll take a long time to achieve but we should at least be aiming for it.

Honestly at this point china is more innovative than America.
