Thousands of anguished Somalis gathered to pray on Friday at the site of the country’s deadliest attack, while the toll rose to 358 and dozens remained missing. Somalia’s president will announce a "state of war" against the al-Shabaab extremist group blamed for the bombing, the prime minister said.

The United States is expected to play a supporting role in the new offensive that President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed is set to launch on Saturday, a Somali military official told The Associated Press. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to reporters.

Somalia’s army spokesman Capt. Abdullahi Iman said the offensive involving thousands of troops will try to push al-Shabaab fighters out of their strongholds in the Lower Shabelle and Middle Shabelle regions where many deadly attacks on Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, and on Somali and African Union bases have been launched.

Also on Friday, the U.S. military said it had resumed its fight against al-Shabaab with a drone strike.

US needs to stay out of this, if reports are true about revenge attack then their reckless behaviour is indirectly responsible for this massacre

Since no one is claiming responsibility a revenge attack seems plausible :cosbyhmm:

Only thing that makes sense, Al kabab misses target takes out 350+ civilians instead so they refuse to take responsibility as they believe their target wasn't hit. Massive rep boost for Somali gov now so they are milking the hell out of the situation and grouping everyone against al kabab.

Even if there target wasn't hit....they still managed to send a message out I would assume they would claim responsibility to show how powerful they still are :manny:

al kababs power would go in minutes if they claimed attack and they know that, they are probably executing their own members who are turning against them or trying to leave right now as we speak

Somalia a country of over 13 million has fewer than 10 hospitals which can treat the types of injuries people have from this explosion. The country has no medical infrastructure to speak of. At least Mogadishu has Turkish and UAE funded hospitals, if this happened elsewhere the numbers would be much higher.
