Mogadishu 10 years from now?

Negative Nancys, traumatised by a generation long barrage of negative news, now like the Dementors in Harry Potter seek to feed on any person with a positive outlook on Somalia, and have the audacity to hijack my thread.

Dahab Tower and Dahab Marina in Mogadishu made me realise just 10 years from now you could be buying or renting affordable apartments or be booking rooms at Mogadishu hotels with views of the Indian Ocean, built all over the city, and with a vastly better security situation and a booming economy.

No sewage system yet focus on that and the roads once that’s done focus on the people

THIS. All somali cities have inadequate roads for cars tk drive and pavements for people to walk. Their priority is in the wrong direction. Looo at this picture and show me where the pavements for people to walk or the traffic lights. It's a mess

Yup and dont forget about the classic corporate advertising hanging on the telephone polls. This is probably what every dumb qabilist hopes for their village. this is the gold standard they all want. But look at it, of course i expect the pave ment to be grey the hot sun will strip the blackness out of any asphalt. But there is no reason why they cant have a proper sidewalk without any trees. That entire street should be shaded and there SHOULDNT be a median, why is there a median, too poor to afford yellow stripes in the middle. Just give me the funds and ill fix this.

Mogadishu is booming! No other Somali city compares to it tbh.

These negative nancies don’t read old articles, even a decade and half ago, street lights were absent, the port wasn’t even functioning in 2005, people had to go to neighbouring countries for basic medical care and even simple amenities like laundromats had disappeared during the 1990s and 2000s, family friendly parks were nonexistent, the beaches were no go areas because of the roaming millitia-men, every 100 meters there was an isbaaro, ancient mosques like Arba Rukun were derelict, the airport of Aden Adde was just an airstrip bringing in jaad.

Today the city has a booming airport, a booming seaport, modern hospitals, schools, universities, new giant mosques, packed beaches and restaurants, tons of entertainment spots, a reconstruction boom of residential homes and apartments, factories, a restored major stadium, you have major annual expos, events and festivals happening in the city etc but god forbid you look 10 years into the future and envision an even greater leap in progress, no that is simply blasphemy.

They can have this thread, time to save a cat in the tree, I’m out;

Okay, if you old-heads want to compare current somalia to past somalia thats fine, obviously improvement is happening. What were doing is comparing somalia to every single other country in the world. We are discussing how extremely failed somalia is compared to rest of the countries. its time that we hold ourselves accountable, not to give ourselves a pat on the back remembering the time somalia was on lifesupport and comparing it to now. Whats funny is you say there are family friendly parks, nope unless youre talking about the identical tin shack city outside muqdisho. Beaches were no go areas, hmm I wonder what happened a couple days ago could you remind me? Yeah theres improvement, but not enough. You people have let your memories of civil war somalia dismiss our concerns. The world isnt going to stop for us, its going to keep moving.

You’re the guy comparing a city still emerging from a civil war with cities that have enjoyed decades of peace, what kind of logic is that? Peaceful cities by the way with tons of slums, power outages and completely constructed with Chinese wealth and manpower, something multiple cities in Somalia will enjoy too, once the deals are signed, but that’s not a boast, because Mogadishu and other cities in Somalia actually have an ancient pedigree as a foundation.

And it’s clear to anyone here that you lack reading comprehension skills, as this thread is set 10 years into the future, so how can something be a ‘failure’ when it has not yet come to pass? Just admit that you didn’t properly read the original post, and just pressed reply with negative foam dripping from the side of your mouth. You even have the audacity to pretend that you care about the locals in Somalia, while using a tragic event that happened a few days ago to portray their city as a lost cause and advance your point, as if terrorist attacks in other cities of the world suddenly erased their worth and potential.

Spare me your faux concerns about a Somali city’s development and future potential, its obvious that all the negativity of the last couple of decades has fried the receptors in your brain that are meant to conduct positivity and a healthy dose of futurism.

That image with the statue caught my eye, with a reverse image search, I discovered its of a recently, restored monument that was destroyed during the civil war, called Dhagaxtuur Monument, Somalia Restores Monuments Wrecked During Civil War.

A Somali called Abdulkadir Hussein Mah, whose father was put to rest there, took it upon himself to campaign for its restoration, he is also the head of the Somali Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Its a beautiful structure with its sole solemn figure and all. It cant have been easy to do that but managed it, may Allaah bless him and his father.

A few things like the above, aesthetics, beauty and so on go a long way in raising the conscious of a people. Getting them to believe in their heritage and in themselves. I believe it is one of our pressing issues.

It is not trivial at all and it will contribute to a productive population and a private workforce who will take the initiative themselves and contribute to infostructure like roads, sewage and so on.

It is very good to see Xamar coming along, even more, to see Somali's being hopeful and optimistic about Somalia, which I have been seeing more and more on SSpot.

Mogadishu is very beautiful city minus the safety risks. I wouldn't mind living there if there wasn't the risk of AS or Qaraxs.

May Allah make Xamar peaceful and safe so we can enjoy coconut juice while sunbathing on lido beach. Ameen

I dont lack in reading comprehension skills, I dont have negative foam dripping from the side of my mouth. When did I even pretend to care about the local. Im just reminding you about reality, somalia didnt suffer from just an attack. The cities in rough shape right now, theres no plan on fixing it. The government leaders are corrupt. Look somalia has been a failed state for as long as I have been alive. If youve been following my posts ive been mostly positive but you can only cope, hope and stay positive for so long until reality starts setting in. Dosent mean I cant be hopeful, but of course when you see no positive changes in the country for this long... All you've done is share a picture of a luxury condo being built by monopoly and comapring it miami. Its unrealistic

When I was in Xamar one thing I felt is that it has the potential to become a really beautiful coastal city. The most beautiful roads are the ones on the way to xamarweyne / liido area because of the clean roads with good sidewalks, and most importantly, THE TREES!!!!! Those roads have big trees on the side that provide shade and I swear they look sooo nice. If Xamar gets good urban planning and sticks to a more white / neutral theme for the architecture (instead of those random bright colored buildings), and adds more greenery and parks Wallahi it would look amazing. InshaAllah our government gets on it!
