So in the end we can say surely that the retaking of Sabiid&Canoole and Bariire was mostly done with foreign troops, ugandan infantry helped storming al shabaab positions and drones and aircraft of the US gave air support. The FGS cannot forever rely on such support forever and is doomed if it doesn't reform and improve its military asap so that it can hold and retake territories on their own.
Seems to be some somalis were assisting these ukrainian operators, small hope that they learned something valuable for the long term.
The offensive that started in 2022 that cleared most of Central Somalia has fooled me. SNA gains has now been completely reversed except for few remaining areas.
You are absolutely right. The political class have no sense of urgency to better the military, even though they fully well know the west will probably pull the plug on Somalia in the next 5 years.
We will see how the upcoming offense will entail but its not looking good for SNA at the moment.
