It's a distraction that we as the people must overcome. I'm implementing this myself, I've deleted all social media, and focus on global news instead.
People obsess over celebrities I think for 2 reasons one for the usual mindless consumption to have the day go past quicker maybe they can get some interesting drama or get some new flashy bling bling object to aspire to have,
or 2 is the “stans” where these celebrities become an identity for them maybe they are projecting some kind of want? Maybe they want to be as adored or as rich, they will get into debates with other stans over these celebrities, where they show off the celebrities material wealth or looks or their accomplishments as if all these are their own, clearly it’s very personal to them for whatever reason.
But Yh it’s all very empty but it feels real to them and that’s enough to fill whatever void they have ig

Similarly to useless popculture, consuming news and politics all the time is also very odd when people become heated or fearmongered or just generally aware of issues that dont concern them, Obviously some news and politics is important but looking and commenting on every little thing trump says just dhiigaaga wuu karinaa bis
Similar to this actually is all those online aqiida kalaam wars between ashari athari salafi etc. Just get people riled up over diin, for the most part people should stay away from online muslim space or look for education not entertainment, also Those speakers corner "debates" are not education
