Americans being afraid of open borders with Mexico is legitimate. People will criticise America for being soft with Canada but being hard with Mexico. The difference is Canada & USA have the rule of law while the majority of governments in South America are weak & have lawless areas.

If America really wanted to do rid of the cartels, they could have done so, but they don't for some reason.
