Women look for partners across and up the pyramid, men look for partners across and down. It's a cross-cultural phenomena and has been studied quite a bit (look up hypergamy). What you look for in a partner obviously depends on the individual but generally speaking, status, wealth and fame amongst women doesn't appeal to most men at all, they instead look for health, fertility and a youthful look. Women on the other hand look primarily for wealth and status when they choose partners because theoretically that will aid them in childrearing since they need a lot of support and a safe/stable environment for that. You can blame 50% of that on biology, the rest is cultural.
