A more relevant Question is Who elevated Jesus to the Status Of God? Cause according to the Bible, He never claimed to have any such powers.. but was merely a messenger of God delivering a message of monotheism and that the Jewish people whom he was sent to exclusively stick to the Teachings of Moses and the Ten commandments.

- Keep your name if it stands for something non-idolatry. John is as good as Ali...
- Keep your name if it is not ugly and/or unbecoming. I think registering "Stupid" as a name would be well, Stupid?

There is no requirement to change one's name upon accepting Islam if it is in contradiction to faith. Many Somalis have Somali names. In my lineage, there is Diriye, Warsame, Gama'did, Socdaal, Sooyaan, Samatar all of them Somali strictly and there is nothing wrong with them.
