this guy is a Foodie if there ever was one. I think i have seen countless of his travel food logs. Very nice. I liked the ones he goes to Africa. And also Dubai.

Swahili peoples cuisine is just next level. I need to travel to Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar again, my gosh been a while. Shukrani to Mark Wein, I am glad people are appreciating their food. Biriani, pilau, sambusa, nyama choma, spiced grilled fish, chapati (a kind of malawax)...etc. Oh man this is the time of people hosting iftar dinners as well. The only thing I don't understand is the obsession with ugali, that stuff is just weird.
They also feast on albinos :gucciwhat:

Bro, all this madness started in Malawi. The worst is that Tanzania has the highest rates of albinism in the world. Thankfully these mutilations are almost non-existent nowadays. So many witchdoctors have been jailed and some killed. It is an extremely shameful practice. It would have been great if this belief was around when the colonists came, kkkkkkkkk.

@ south Cushitic.

bro how is it possible for me to live in Tanzania, say if I open a mini market.

If you have no connection to these CCM members, do not even try coming to establish an enterprise. Magufuli has made it extremely difficult for anyone seeking business opportunities who is not of Tanzanian origin. 'Timua Wageni' is the new slogan, 'kick out the visitors'.

I am baffled that the Somalis managed to escape the mass corruption purges. I think it is because they stuck with the party, unlike a few other members who fled to CHADEMA (the principal opposition party during elections at the time) and got locked up after.

Most of these foods you stated including chapati are mostly from India but with its own twist to it.

Magufuli is good at fighting corruption but he's a bit extreme at times. Does he stop ppl who want to do business as well? Does he not understand investments would create jobs? Thats crazy lmao

I heard this mentality that all foreigners are parasites, runs deep there. Why are the bantus in TZ so communist while in Kenya they're more progressive capitalists.

I'm looking at the 2 country's history from the 70s till now.
They've had this mentality for a while, meanwhile kenyans have always been great to foreigners. The 2 countries think of foreigners very differently, one sees them as money making opportunity and the other sees them as parasites.

So basically just bastardised Indian food? :draketf:

Is there a traditional East African cuisine that isn't just bastardised Arab/South Asian food?

The Zwahili sabaayad or what they call Chapati is slightly softer than the Somali Sabaayad . Some of the Southerner Somalis do make the Softer version . There are also variants of Sabaayad across all of North/ Eastern Africa . It’s not an Indian invention .
