I found this author through a podcast. I’m constantly cycling through pods, and searching my app for new content since I commute quite a bit and use them for exercise. I was randomly adding a whole bunch of pods by searching key terms that describe what I was looking for.

I added “The Think Grow” pod that way and when I clicked on it, I noticed the latest pod interviewed someone named Idil Ahmed. I was like...that’s a Somali: http://thinkgrowprosper.com/blog/idil-ahmed

It looks like a very boring book with almost no substance but the regular leftist bs
I’ll read it first.

Judging from the pod, it kinda seems like a culmination of common sense things most people probably already know combined with research and affirmations that help many people gain motivation. The mind is a machine, and you have to do a bit self-programming to guide your life, but I’m interested in seeing what it actually has to say.

Thank you, Sister. I Love reading, watching, and listening about The Law of Attraction! I will have to read and listen later, as I have to go help save the babies now.

From the few pages she screen shot i could already get a glimpse of what kind of a book it is. It’s just like you mentioned about motivation uplifting and goals, basically the regular stuff written on Twitter by regular xalimos on daily basis but packed better

Sounds like it's yet another new age nonsense motivation book.

I can't stand these books, but I'm happy for the Somali author.

Good on her. She did what most don't do but say they'd eventually do, write a book.

Have you read one before?

I’ve yet to read a book that’s “self-help” so it’ll be interesting. When I’m reading non-fiction I tend to go for literally any other category, and I agree that the self-help category can be extremely muddled.

I read The Secret years ago when it was everywhere. Waste of money and time. The most ridiculous nonsense I've ever read. Yet it sold tens of millions of copies and translated to almost every language - and there's even a film. I'm pretty sure @LoveandLight has read it (right?).

What was the secret? :icon lol:

Don't. :uCkf6mf:

I actually first thought it was going to be a mystery of sorts. I was quite looking forward to it. Then it starts talking about things like quantum physics and energy and Einstein and Newton and things like laws of attraction and how the universe is a like depository of pure energy and you can control it all through your mind. Imagine reading hundreds of pages of that. I was a science kid and this bullshit pissed off! To me, the whole new-age nonsense is religion 2.0 -- it's basically a repacking of it. I'm pretty sure if even said the university is within our minds!

That shit sold over 30 million copies. There's no hope for mankind! :icon lol:

I wasn’t teasing you, I really wanted to know lol. Clever title tbh.

Wow, that’s a lot of woo! But I think if you lose all the bullshit of that nature and stick to giving practical guidance, aren’t they useful then, or are they all like that? I feel like self-help is gaining traction recently. You have Peterson’s book that infuses Jungian psychology and religion as a bestseller among others. That’s on queue too, if only to see what the fuss is about.

That's nothing. She argues that, because of this law of attraction, you're the architect of your own demise. So if you get into a car crush and get paralysed, you wished for this on some level and the universe granted you your wish (yes, she actually uses the car crush example!). Btw, I just checked Idil Ahmed's website. Look at these videos. It's the stuff from The Secret (and my nightmares). Clever domain name, though!
