Mamdani wins New York City mayoral election

Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani defeated the Zionist machine in NYC and throughout America. It is a good sign that America is shifting away from the stranglehold that this group of people have on American politics.

The right-wing Islamophobes are seething tonight. This will hopefully be a seismic wave that will run through the country and send every Israeli firster home.

He honestly reminds me of Obama but who knows. Atleast Zionist’s are mad.

He is only a mayor. He can't be compared to Obama. He won this election with his campaign promises for rent stabilization, taxing the top 1%, affordable childcare for NYC residents, perhaps increased minimum wage for NYC workers, free city-run buses, and refused to go to Tel Aviv after he wins the election. His powers are only restricted to NYC.

Thing is cities aren't real sovereigns, only the federal and state govs can actually legislate. Cities are delegated some local power by the states. But the state's governor is running for re-election next year so forget about jacking up taxes for the main tax base. Also free buses = mobile homeless shelters, toilets and drug dens infested with needles

Not sure if you understood my message but that is what I was trying to convey. He does not have powers at the national scale.

I think you got it wrong what Mamdani is trying to accomplish here. There are already city transit operating in NYC. Today, if you want to ride them, you will have to pay for it. He wants to make it free for city bus riders.

As for raising taxes, he needs the NYC council when raising property taxes. It is other taxes (i.e., personal income tax, sales tax, business and corporate taxes, etc) that needs the approval of state legislator.

I don’t trust him for some reason. Feel like he’s going to disappoint many people.
Democrats need to join the abundance movement they need to listen to Ezra Klein more and Obama less

Social Democrats are, in the long-term, a waste of time. They're "better" than Neolibs and Neocons and such but, at the end of the day, even if they have real legislative power they're just offering the public Capitalism with higher taxes on the wealthy, a more robust welfare state and some more state-ownership of some industries. The inherent problem with this is that something more or less like this existed in the West pre people like Thatcher and Reagan.

Guess what happened? The wealthy formed a coalition, built think-tanks, bided their time and eventually rolled it all back; privatization, free-trade agreements, deindustrialization, financialization, tax-cuts and so on and so on. That's all that will happen someday around like 2070 or something if people like AOC, Sanders and Mamdani have their way. They offer a mere band-aid to the problem. You cannot have an authoritarian, highly unequal economic framework like Capitalism and sit it side-by-side with something like Republicanism (Representative Democracy) and expect the latter to function for the common man, for very long anyway.
