No not that easy. Afghan has huge support from pashtuuns, the dominant ethnic group of Afghanistan. Shabaab has less than 15% of southern somalias support. Very unlikely they will take over the whole of the south

Under no circumstances should Shabab be legimatized as a poltiical entity. Official negotiations and the opening of a political office in Qatar are steps in the wrong direction to eradicate this cancer from Somalia. Shabaab are stronger than the federal govt, negotiating with them from a weak point is not going to work. Their captured are "rehabilitated" instead of executed. It should be social taboo to have been a Shabaab member rather than them getting government positions.

The government should be employing psychological warfare on them, judge and sentence them in mass as was done in Puntland. 18 of them met their maker in a coordinated sentencing and what we saw was a wave of sympathy for them, those are Shabaab sympathizers and we need them out in the open as possible.
