Imagine one day you find yourself in a white man’s land and thou art black.
You go to school, your Nigerian friend shows off his cultural attire on world book day, brings boxes of jollof rice for everyone and shows of a few of his azonto moves.
You go home, you say ‘daddy mommy where are we from?'. She goes 'Jevonte yo stupid ass always asking questions we from Louisiana now go to bed'.
As you grow up, you see your teachers have no hope for you, the institutions are racist and generally everyone has problem with your people.
You get on the world wide web and see the constant jokes on your people, where its their lack of social/economical/political success or their God-given looks someone always has something to say.
You don't really belong here, yet you do not where you originate from.
Some years later, a wave of immigrants start to come from the continent your forefathers probably came from.
Whilst Civil rights movement, John Crow laws, Rosa Parks, Martin L King are things you've experienced first hand, these are things they just briefly learnt in school.
They have places they call home, rich languages, traditions and religions.
But they happen to share one of 3-4 skin colours on the planet. And as ethnic minorities, they also face some difficulties.
Mind you, these people still do better in education and socio-economically than your people.
So they jump your movement, they decide to share your identity and struggle, and some of the loudest voices start to come from these people.
Jevonte, you are much nicer than I am.
Lord knows I would burn these people at the stake.
The End.
