Lost Oromo history: the 1992 battle of Gazira!

In the Spring of 1992 in it’s campaign to seize control of the cities in eastern Ethiopia, the EPRDF (Ethiopian Peoples Revolutionary Democratic Front) moved on the IFLO (Islamic Front for the Liberation of Oromia) headquarters in Dire Dhawa town. The headquarters, situated on a busy intersection in the Gazira district, had been built by Haile Selassie as a gift to his son during his reign.
The EPRDF launched a surprise attack at sunset with a large force accompanied by heavy Armour, besieging the building from all sides. The strategy was simple. Show up with an impressive force, and arrest the bandits. By that time the IFLO had pulled out of the cities and back to their bases in the countryside which were more defensible. As for the men in the compound, there was nothing they can do but surrender. But they wouldn't come out. Repeated calls were made, offering amnesty for those who would surrender. The response was gunfire and rpg shells from the compound. The compound was pounded by t-55/54 tanks, and machine gun fire. The fighting had continued throughout the night and the next day uninterrupted. The district was closed down and for days nothing moved in Gazira except vehicles taking away the killed & wounded and carrying supplies to the front. After 3 days of seige and bombardment, the compound fell. When the EPRDF was able to enter the heavily damaged building, except for one wounded, all of the fighters had been killed. There were no more than half a dozen men in the compound.
Some ask why did they not leave the compound after their front had pulled out? Why did they stay behind by themselves? Why? Why oh why?

Oromos have a lot of untold and unknown history. A lot of folks don't know that an Oromo dynasty once ruled Abyssinia and made the court language in Gondar Oromo for a time:

I wouldn't mind learning Af-Oromo for fun, but finding courses on it is difficult.

A few Habashi know well about this. They even bring it up when somebody brings up the Oromo predicament in Ethiopia, saying that they equally did damage, had times of elite power position, and should therefore not complain in the grand historical sense.

Hey,
Did Abiye called all Amhara people to come to Ethiopia. Many Amhara people here in the United State are going to Ethiopia to celebrate victory Over Tigre.
Amhara are really happy now, Tigress are gone

Lol, that's funny and sad at the same time. A lot of Ethiopians are going back home, I'd assume many are Amhara or mixed, since Amhara see Ethiopia as a state molded in their image. Ethiopia's creation initially at least, I'd say, is a combination of factors: Oromo military muscle, Amhara culturally, and European firearms and interests.

Who? Oromos or?
Yup. Afar are tough fighters and living in that tough environment would make anyone a tough person in general.
TPLF was defeated in Afar land for sure. They burnt mosques and Islamic books, so no Muslim should side with TPLF st least in regards to what they did in Afar region.
