Honestly, I don’t agree with the idea of you putting Christian in quotes when talking about Matt Walsh or others who hold these views. In American history, Christianity has often been directly tied to racism and xenophobia, whether people want to admit it or not.

Take the example of Christian slave masters who used the Bible to justify enslaving Black people, claiming it was part of God’s divine plan. There was even a whole movement called the 'Bible Belt', where people believed in racial hierarchies as part of their faith.

Fast forward to the era of segregation and Jim Crow laws, and many white Christians were the ones defending racial inequality, even in the name of their faith. Churches were places where white supremacy was often preached, and religious groups like the Southern Baptists were split over slavery and segregation, aligning themselves with racist politics.

Let’s also not forget the KKK who were Christians and used Christianity to justify their violent, racist agenda. The KKK views on race weren’t some distortion of Christianity, they were rooted in a particular interpretation of it that supported white supremacy and exclusion.

So when Walsh says things like 'Somalis are taking over American cities' it’s a continuation of that same ugly history. The fact is Matt Walsh like so many others who make these claims about 'foreigners' taking over isn’t even indigenous to this land. I noticed many of them have something in common and most tend to be Christians. Matt ancestors came here as immigrants, just like the people he’s attacking. He doesn’t get to lecture anyone about who belongs in America, especially when his own family wasn’t here first, and he’s no more 'native' to this land than us!

The reality is, Matt Walsh’s views fit perfectly within a long tradition of using Christianity to justify racism, nationalism, and xenophobia. Christianity has been weaponized for generations by people who have no problem using it to divide, exclude, and oppress others, by pretending that Walsh’s views aren’t tied to that history is ignoring the ugly truths of both American politics and American Christianity.

Sorry for the long rant I just have Christian fatigue.

I've been saying this for a while now. We are our own worst enemy and until we realize our true potential through unity, we will continue to fumble opportunities just to get back at another qabiil.
