Reer Waamo have most of Somalias cattle and thats without including Garissa county.

Bay and Waqooyi galbeeds cattle numbers both surprise me.

The driest region has the most livestock.



Most likely around the Borama/Gebilay corridor, lots of fertile land.
Im surprised because its so much smaller then I would have thought.

‘Galbeed’ (western SL) is supposed to be known for cattle. Droughts must have really halted their growth.

The driest region has the most livestock.
  1. Total land area matters a lot for livestock population. Galgaduud to Bari is 1/3 of Somalia's land area.
  2. The south of Somalia is more disease prone. Animals get sick more often due to endemic disease vectors like botfly, Tsetse and mosquitos being present year round due to higher rainfall.
  3. Much of the best grazing land in the south and in the northwest is used for grain production, only the most marginal areas are used for grazing.
