I wouldn't use the word scam but rather 'delusion' because that's what it really is. The best of people eventually see it for what it is, a transitory short-lived station and return firmly back to their religion, were as the pathetic losers get totally lost in this delusion.

The companions when they saw him crying asked what had made him cry and Umar (ra) answered ‘aamilatu nasiba’ (quoting this verse). This monk had exhausted himself in worship and given up his youth in a labour and worship that Allah (swt) will not accept and this made Umar (ra) feel sad to the extent that he wept.
Another kind of ‘aml that people engage in which the messenger (saw) cursed was being a slave to the Dinar and Dirham. These are silver/Gold coins worth far more then these worthless fiat currencies that loose their values rapidly which we run after making us even worse then those people.
To add further insult to injury no one was a corporate slave back then, most people ran their own businesses and indulged themselves in trade, they had far more freedoms then what we have today.
Just when your about to have sympathy for these delusional clueless worthless pathetic slaves of Satan, the verse that follows is even more striking!
They will enter into the scorching fire!

I always thought Jews and Christians go to Heaven as long as they're not Mushriks. That's how I understand the ayah.

It makes perfect sense to me, we haven't been created to be sheep, we weren't blessed with this awesome brain just to become mindless followers, no one is given a burden that he/she is unable to carry.
In the Nuremberg trial the concept of "following orders" was not accepted of the soldiers who supposedly partook in the killing of these fake Jews, there was a famous case of a soldiers supposedly just guarding the concentration camps that was put on trial (he didn't kill anyone).
You wouldn't have accepted his arguments of "he was just following orders" or in this specific case "he was a loving husband, father who took great care of his wife and kids, and would never hurt anyone"
Order followers as well as the people who are just sheep and refuse to think despite being granted all the tools, are the most despicable and most evil people in this world, if such people ever wielded any power, they would have become the worst of tyrants.
As for the Ayah that you quoted completely out of context, you should first read the tasfeer of it, you are using this completely out of context, this is talking about specific people during the time of the Prophet who recognised him from their scriptures better then they recognised their own "children" but still rejected him, such people undoubtedly receive the worst of punishments.

I don’t find it depressing at all. It is what it is. It’s kinda comforting to know that everything we worry about is essentially meaningless.My exact thoughts (minus the deen part). Weirdly enough though, i don't feel depressed about it. It's just reality, it's life. Find whatever enjoyment or purpose you can out of it before it's over, that's my own philosophy.

The guards were most likely aware of the atrocities that took place behind the walls. If an ayah can be interpreted in one way or another, Isn't one of the different adherents incorrectly following the deen? And isn't it a high possibility that they'll be punished for it like the clergymen who follow like sheep. But what if they genuinely didn't know? There are a lot of problems with Islamic worship.

Isa never heard of Christianity, it's derived from the Greek word Christos and Isa never spoke Greek by unanimous consensus, Christos means the "anointed one" a translation from the Arabic/Hebrew "Al-Masih" (Messiah) which he is familiar with.
As for Jews/Judaism even in their Hebrew equivalent of today was a term none of the Israelite prophets ever heard off and doesn't appear once in the corrupt Torah they have today, it came much later in history, the first record of the word "Jew" appearing in European history is 1275.

I was addressing the underlying false notion of your post which was "because he doesn't know, why should he then suffer the consequences" by citing that example to ram things home, ignorance of the law is not an excuse that stands up in court, you will get punished regardless..
Whether you run a business, a child care facility, a factory etc. the onus is on you to know all the law's, even if it could be proven that the person genuinely was ignorant of the law, this still doesn't hold up in court, I don't know why this is so difficult for you to grasp.
The only problem with Islamic worship is the one that exists in your head, your ignorance is astounding, you just put ibn Kahtiir next to a title of a book then followed by the name of a historian.
Al Kaashaaf that you quoted is not an author but the title of a book authored by Al-Zamaskhari a Mu'tazilite theologian of Persian descent, his work of Tasfeer is primarily based on linguistic side which is entirely different from the works of Tabari (historian) and ibn Kathiir (tasfeer based on hadith)
Your getting the very basics messed up here, these are complete different sciences, all 3 of them in fact. Having differences of opinion is healthy, it's not a problem at all, this even happened between the companions, the differences were in jurisprudence and fiqh only not in theology.
We learn from the hadith that eventually any person with less then a mustard seed of faith will enter heaven, I do not know the faith that will await that monk or even myself, or his circumstances (has the message reached him)
He could have reverted towards the end of his life, but the one thing I do know is that if his heart was in the right place and he genuinely sought guidance, those doors would have been opened for him.

Please listen to the tasfeer of that ayah, you completely misunderstood the verse, the preceding verses make this even more clear. The English translation of it is also very poor.

We are only nothing so long as we allow ourselfs to be nothing, and we will not be remembered so long as we don't make ourselfs memorable.
Obviously, anyone must know what they want to be known after they are long gone, but we are nothing more ore less than what we choose to reveal. Thus we should make our own reality, be the indivual we always wanted to be and live the life wa want to live. We ought to be objectively influencing our reality by our actions, and after we are long by our legacy we lived through. Then, and only then can we have recognition we sought after and some of us will be remembered so well that there will be queue on their grave and some wont even have a grave. Be the light not the night.
