Today people in the liberal West are known for silencing critics of their views by shouting them down with labels (e.g., Misogyny! Racism! Antisemitism! Homophobia!).
It is often assumed that this practice is fairly recent - emerging with post-1960s "Cultural Marxism" or "Wokism."
It is assumed that prior to the 1960s, liberal Westerners addressed criticism through rational argumentation.
This is false. Liberalism emerged in the 18th century, and from this time, liberal Westerners have constantly sought to silence critics by shouting them down with labels.
Particularly notable: Bigotry! Fanaticism! Extremism!
(A classic example is the 1736 anti-Islamic play known as "Fanaticism, or Mahomet the Prophet", written by the liberal French Philosopher Voltaire)
All of these labels (Bigotry, Fanaticism, Extremism) simply mean hostility to liberalism or, what can be termed: "Liberalophobia."
In reality, the standard pre-1960s liberal is just like feminists, LGBT activists, and Zionist activists. Whereas these groups constantly shout down others with accusations of Misogyny, Homophobia, and Antisemitism, the standard liberal shouts down others with accusations of Liberalophobia (i.e., Bigotry, Extremism).
