More disturbing than the fact that there's a secret underground gay community in Somaliland is the rampant rape and homosexuality in their dhaqan celis centres. Most of the people sent to these centres aren't even gay, and many are underaged children from the diaspora, but they're being raped at night by the workers and other patients, whether they're male or female.

This was accompanied by daily readings of Islamic texts.

On the fourth day, the "life savers" started sexually abusing Mohamed.

"They used to rape me at midnight, and sometimes came in groups," Mohamed remembers.

Rape was common in the centre, and was committed both by patients and by staff, he says.

This reminds me of the rape/torture facility in Nigeria that masqueraded as a dhaqan celis centre.

Why send the people there? Why not show them the positive side of Somalia whilst being with them? This always seems to confuse me.

I agree with what your saying but like I said people are biased towards there own, if me and an cadaan go rob something from a store and you told this to an cadaan man he will show mercy towards his own and not me, and that’s natural you can’t help it.
