Let’s test how Arabicized our language has become

Our traditional Somali Solar Calendar is 12 months and 365 days as week as well. This was an ancient system that was very accurate. We had multiple calendar systems, both Lunar and Solar. How do you think our ancestors were able to accurately voyage and be seafarers without a Calendar system?

We had multiple names to refer to the days of the week, that's why you can find many variations whether in Af-Maay or Af-maxaa tiri.

Click on the source that says "Somali calendar at Wardheer.startlogic.com and it will take you to the wayback machine that has a PDF.

Im familiar with our calendar, but unfortunately it still had to make way for the gregorian calendar due to modernity. Why did you think I did not know it?

Us somalis are more fixated on seasons of the year then days. Those are more important to us. Last time I checked those are still in somali. To me this is not a big issue and I think our people have more pressing matters. Lets agree to disagree on this.

I think preIslamic Somalis were very very intelligent, apparently they had their own religion empire called Microbia with ports and everything. It was a burgeoning civilization...their religion was Waaqaa, and even conquered parts of Mozambique''

We did not conquer parts of Mozambigue, we only had trade post there. Also that happened during the Ajuraan times, thats in the middle ages.

I bet most of you 'wanna be' ultranationalists can't even read, write or speak proper Af-Soomaali.
:mjpls:
how about you rewrite this whole topic in Af-Somaali instead of using a foreign language, and we can discuss the issue using afkeena.

Agreed, they were definitely intelligent.

They're not burdened by the consequences of a brutal civil war along with climate change and severe poverty. Our culture flourished in that environment.

It is not just a “few” words.
When your average Somali person doesn’t know even the basic days of the week in Somali, that’s a problem.

most Somalis don’t know the months in Somali but can say them in Arabic or even Italian.

This is how a language slowly dies out over centuries… by replacing perfect to use everyday words with another’s language.

English has hundreds of Arabic loan words, you don’t see them crying on social media about it.

Because they don’t have a chip on their shoulder or an inferiority complex like yourself.

Am tell you this in simple way for you to understand how Somali is Arabinzed, there is a letter in the 26 Somali alphabet that all the words in Somali langage is an Arabic.

Imagine that,I mean you literally can't find an Arabic borrowed word that starts with that Somali alphabet that is pure Somali word and not borrowed from Arabic language, so that is at least 1/26 of Somali language an Arab borrowed words, that is all at,guess what that word is guys?
The letter:KH.

To all Muslims;
Whenever you see someone complaining about our language being Arabized know that it's coming from a person/place of kuffur (hint OP's religiosity).
I have hard time accepting someone speaking/writing in English complaining about Arabic. First use Af Soomaali to complain simple.
My brothers and sisters in Islam your prayers, quran and all things holy are in Arabic do not be discouraged to learn Arabic and your faith deeply for working for your Akhira is everlasting and better than this Dunya.
Wa Billahi Towfiiq.

How do you say Morning in authentic Somali?

What are the days of the week in Somali?

Afro-Asiatic language have common words. Subax Wanaagsan is how you say in Somali. Besides, most of the Muslim groups throughout the Muslim world have Arabic loan-words, and it is not something unique to us.

p.s., I think you have an agenda and your effort to take an issue with Arabic could be alluding to an underlying deeper issue.

Af somali has both recent and ancient Arabic influence, some of it predates Islam and is south Arabian.
To say af Somali is arabized is like saying English or German are latinized, which is true to some extent but still normal because all languages have foreign influence and words

It's not just us Diaspora people. Even in the Somali school system they use Arabic or Italian days of the week to teach children.

Go to youtube and see if you can find genuine Somali calendar or days of the week. The answer is it's impossible. Only some random Ajnabi is doing it.

Months in Af-maxa tirii Somali:

  1. Naas - January
  2. Kodxin - February
  3. Dirir - March
  4. Gudba - April
  5. Xorey - May
  6. Darabley - June
  7. Cirir - July
  8. Cuur - August
  9. Duugato - September
  10. Meecaad - October
  11. Agaali - November
  12. AfoGaal - December
Edit: You should stop minimizing this, it's a big problem when a country doesn't teach the days of the week in their native langauge. That's the basics. People like you are a part of the problem watching this happen.

That is some jacbur that was recently made up. These are the months that Somali nomads followed after we embraced Islam 1400 years ago.

If you don't mind answering, are you a Waaqist?

It was the Somali Muslim Ajuuraan sultanate who took Islam to Sub-Saharan Africa, all the way to MNozambique, Camoros, Maldives, and other places. Never heard of Waaqist expansion. Our known history mostly stems since the arrival of Islam in the Horn.
