Lebanese Citizenship System / Somali ID &Citizenship System similarities

Yesterday, I was with my Lebanese friend and she was telling me that as a Lebanese girl if she marries out her children and her husband will never ever become Lebanese and they will not be able to own land or even be able to open a business without a Lebanese sponsor. She said it’s not fair because many Lebanese men marry white woman/ foreigners and they get citizenship and rights after 1 year but she can’t pass it on. She said many women have tried to advocate for it but it has not been successful as Lebanese Government ruled out any possibility of that changing.

It got me thinking that Somalia is the exact same, Somali Woman aren’t able to pass on citizenship or the Somali identity to their children if they have non-Somali children nor will their foreign spouse ever be eligible for Citizenship. it’s not only Somalia but basically every other Arab Country. Should Somalia remain this way as it prepares to introduce the Somali ID card? As in The only way to be Somali is through your father..?

who tf wants to be a citizen of Somalia, Lebanon, or any Arab shithole?
somalia isnt the UAE... they have the weakest passport in the world
You sound very angry. Those countries will get better 1 day.

Somali is our identity we don’t care if they have weak or strong passport most of us on this forum already possess one of the most powerful travel documents in the world anyways..

If Somalia has naturalization laws that grants foreigners Somali citizenships after living in the country for a number of years, I don’t see any reason as to why we should restrict nationality to the children of a Somali mother.

There is no naturalisation laws in Somalia it’s all bullshit I think.

I think it’s only if you’re of somali descent from Kenya and Ethiopia that naturalisation counts for you.

Those laws are usually for ethnic Somalis who live in the colonized regions. You need to bring a clan leader to vouch for you and they aren’t going to vouch for a white guy or whatever.

Right now you can’t become a government official if you have a foreign wife, and that’s Xeer as well.

Somali men with foreign wives are allowed to be government officials, you seen the former Foreign Minister Ahmed Awad, his wife is Egyptian.

This is from the constitution. Somalis from Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti usually get citizenship immediately without having to reside in Somalia.
