Somaliland was the only civilized place in Somalia other than Xamar and hence the biggest threat to the regime.

If you are looking for sympathy, some of the land mines in the main cities were laid in the inter-SNM clan wars. Everything can't be blamed on the former government.

Those land-mines are not from siyad barre, you dumb ass. It's done by militia groups. Notice how they lay it around 'settled' areas of 'waqoyi galbeed' because they fear an 'assault' from 'reer miyi' clans. The land mines are situated around heavily settled 'places' because they know they lack nomadic man power to keep invading nomads away. Notice the one in galgala, that was recently put there by 'shabab' not siyad. This map isn't by siyad barre it's bullshit, it speaks about today civil war.

Hargeisa hopes the land mines will disable the invading nomadic clans, but nomadic clans will purchase a mine detector vehicle to ensure the route is mine free and once they detect it, they will have an expert who manages removing it. So it's a stupid old war tactic solution by hargeisa. U can't stop the invading reer miyi forces to protect your hargeisa settlements since u know u lack reer miyi clans on camels.

That's why you see PL envoy dodging land mines around galgala, the SNM militia and shabab use this tactic by placing land mines along the road. The northern area mines was laid by SNM to safeguard hargeisa from 'nomadic' clans since they lack a frontier of nomadic clans to protect the cities. That's why in PL you have smaller towns with larger nomadic population. It's the concept of the vikings. Small cities and larger viking camps outside the city.

The land mines are shocking high in SL because they are 'settled' clans and fear nomadic clans invading them. Caare showed and proved how he can capture land in Sanaag without any problem, the reason is the population is settled in SL, they can't go out there and stop it.
