Better buying K-pop posters than plan B I guessLool. Kpop/kdrama has a chokehold on Somali girls. I honestly think it is better than mimicking the latter.
Terrible sight. In my experience of London, most diaspora Somali girls under 25 are either; likely on the spectrum & into K-pop/anime or they mimick Afro-Caribbean dhaqan. Thankfully my younger cousins are the former

Replicating Madow men's behavior. They are the only people I've seen rude to their women and treat them like men.I am curious. I am noticing lads on the forum are so hostile, if rude to the ladies, and treat them as if lads. what is this new cultural phenomenon? what are the contributing factors?
AAAAAAAK! they acting like madow people! gang, guns, and violence, are some of the reasons that madows have terrible and unsafe communities. The somalis that are born in the west are concerning wallahi. I don't understand why they don't want to embrace their own culture but act like the madows. We have a beautiful culture in west of helping each other. Building up stores, restaurants, masjids, clinics...etc We buy from our own people, sell to our own people, and invest money back to our somali communities. We've built some economic power. Within 30 years, we've become a force to be reckon with. These madows have been here forever and don't have ish to speak of! and that's because they are too busy killing each other, doing drugs, going to prison. They don't have a sense of community. Wallahi, I'm scared that when the older generation that immigrated here, pass away and we the ones born here take over, with somalis like them we might just end up like the madow communities. Ya rabi ya rahman. May allah prevent that from happening to us.You never interacted with Somalis like this?

You make a good point about imagining if somalis were the first people of a darker hue to arrive to north America, I didn't think of it like that. Maybe because there were already dark hue people there and might have given us (east African immigrants) a boost. I do understand that we must acknowledge their struggle, and I do. But one must also acknowledge that it is only a boost that was given to us. Our hard work and sense of community is the main reasons why we progressed so quickly within ~ 30 years. If you compare our past 30 years (somali communities) to their 30 years (madow communities), we have grown alarmingly fast in economic power and, have already started to grow political power. The reason why I say that madows don't really have much to show for, is that they should have done better than us at least in the past 30 years. They have been here longer, and even if they couldn't do anything in those years before, they at least know the American system better than us. There isn't a culture barrier (cuz they are born here), or a language barrier. There are many somalis that barely know english but build a whole business from the ground. These are somethings that our older gen immigrants struggled with, and still managed to build a solid community. The madow don't seem to have potential to grow. That's the problem, they aren't showing progress. And if we copy them we will become stagnant, or even worse regress and lose the power that the older generation worked so hard to build. It is indeed a travesty. You raise some valid points, and I agree with some. In general, societies look up to elevate their cultures, and not downgrade to adopt a weaker culture than their own, and it is alarming at the rate at which Somalis in the West have normalised norms from weaker cultures including those of the working class Europeans, and those of people of African decent, most notably that of the African Americans. I must say this is not just the Somalis, but is an observable trend among other cultures. For example, in France, one could observe North African Amazighs shedding their rich culture for the sake of modernity, and assimilation.
If our forefathers would have seen what we had become, they would have died multiple, if brutal deaths at own hands.
Postscript:
I disagree with the notion that Africans have been in the West for centuries, and have little to show for. East Africans have greatly benefited from the struggle of peoples of African extraction, more so of the African Americans, and are standing on the shoulders of those who came before them. We must acknowledge their struggle whilst recognising our swift advancement at their expense. Imagine had Somalis been the first poor people of dark hue to have arrived in North America.
I still struggle to fathom as to reasons lads from decent homes would misbehave badly towards the best, most resilient women on the planet. What would they want in their stead? What would they have done had they been charlatans of the weaker stock. I remain in a state of befuddlement.
True, but do bear in mind we are treated as if the preferred immigrants, afforded certain benefits, only availed to supine Asians in the US, similar to the then "house negr***" whereas African Americans are treated as the farm peasants kept at bay, and out in the shed.If you compare our past 30 years (somali communities) to their 30 years (madow communities), we have grown alarmingly fast in economic power and, have already started to grow political power.
