How stupid. Do we need 6 ports for 10 million people? even countries much larger then us don't have this amount of ports. It's just repeating and it becomes useless. South west should think about dumping that money into agriculture and turning the river into a source for electricity. We shouldn't have more then 2 or 3 ports strategically placed across the country. We should focus on other areas lacking in the nation and which region will pick it up. Like if PL develops a cement plant, you go do something else rather then repeat it cuz an over-supply will happen and it becomes a waste in the end.

No point having 5 shops selling the same things when u can have 5 shops selling different things. That's what is happening in Somalia each region is just having the same thing as another region. Why doesn't south west focus on being the key electricity provider for the nation and export that to the regions. One you will have not much competition cause no-one else is doing it and two you are actually providing something the nation is lacking in. We are not lacking in ports, stop adding more

Hope its a small clean design like the Hobyo port.

Small ports are not good for manufacturing however we don't have a manufacturing industry so it wont harm us in the short run. We could use imports to stabilize and raise living standard & build our country.

we have to search and make money from mineral/oil & gas/ Livestock exporting industries.

Nah too many ports means competition among ports means price wars cause there is too much supply of it and the demand isn't much(population wise). 10 million people, no need for more then 3 ports

Minor ports is needed but major ports can be limited.

Baraawe isn't going to have a major port like the ones in mogadishu, berbera, kismaayo or bosaso or the new port being built in hobyo.

Kismaayo serves jubboinkya, mogadishu serves the middle and lower shabelle, hobyo serves mudug and bosaso serves bari.

But every other cities who lies on the sea should have minor ports.
